Last year
we made an application to the National Lottery Charities Board
-now renamed the Community Fund- for a grant of £197,000 to
rebuild the 'wooden hut' section of the Hall in permanent
materials to the same width as, and to match, the already
rebuilt the front end.
We heard
in late November that we had not been successful and we were
invited to a special meeting of the Community Fund in Nottingham
to hear the reasons why. Len Bale and David Hannibal attended
on behalf of the Committee. They leamt that the application
had got through the first two stages, but then further details
were required. The next date for receipt of applications was
21st December 2001, which left only three weeks to put it
together.
By this time the application form had been revised, and little
of the original format remained. None of the original application
material had been returned, so the whole thing had to be started
up again from scratch. A very hectic three weeks followed,
much of it spilling over into the early hours, collecting
and putting together new material which, for the original
application, had been done over a period of ten weeks.
The Chairman would like personally to thank all who were asked
for assistance in providing letters of support, to the CVS
who gave much of their valuable time at short notice and to
members of the Committee for their time in preparing a 'business
plan' and various reports, all of which were included in the
application. We hope it will all be worth it and that we will
finish with a hall worthy of the community which it will serve.
We shall know by the end of May whether we have been successful
this time.
