Lubenham
hit the news on Monday 18th June with articles about the scarecrow
weekend, the theft of some scarecrows and the vandalism of
another.
First was a slot on radio Leicester at 7.40am when I was phoned
by the radio station following an earlier plea for information
about the theft of Myra Pollards drunken scarecrow. I was
able to tell them that we had heard that the scarecrow had
turned up at Loughborough Police station but we had no further
details.
A later call to Loughborough police station revealed that
he really is there and it is believed he had been taken as
part of a charity 'prank' . He apparrently has with him a
letter explaining everything! We eagerly await his return
to his owner
( he should be collected on Tuesday 19th ) who was somewhat
concerned about the loss of his boots which had been loaned
to the scarecrow. We will try to arrange a suitable homecoming!

The phone had barely been put down before a call came through
from central TV who had heard the article and wanted to come
and take some film of the remaining scarecrows along with
an interview. I was already late for work so I made a quick
dash to Clare Johnson's house to tell her that she was about
to experience another 10mins of fame as the chief organiser
of the weekend.
Another few phonecalls to make sure some scarecrows got returned
to their gardens and I managed to get off to work. The resulting
witty article article went out on central TV at lunchtime
and in the evening and featured several scarecrows.
It's a pity that some more scarecrows disappeared on Sunday
night? Does anyone know of the whereabouts of Policeman number
2 ? Has the local constabulary enlisted his help to fight
speeding traffic? (we know their numbers are low), or has
he also been taken hostage? Any information would be welcomed
as the coat belongs to someone else.
