Summer
is here once again, and there are a few things to think about
in this season. The main place for theft in summer is your garden
shed. Take a few moments to think of the value of the items
you keep there: on average, I would think it would be several
hundred pounds. Do you think you have enough security on the
door and windows? If not, think about putting a good padlock
on the door, bars on the windows and fitting a shed alarm. Shed
alarms are available at cost price from Market Harborough Police
Station - they are cheap and easy to fit and will attract the
attention of neighbours if they are triggered.
When you go on holiday, don't forget to cancel your milk and
papers! If someone living nearby can keep an eye on your house,
all the better; and also, if possible, arrange for someone to
collect your post from the doormat. (You can arrange for the
Post Office to keep your mail until you return - but it will
cost you money and you need to give them notice.)
The
next topic this month is vehicles and speeding. I know there
are problems of vehicles speeding through your village, and
we are trying to do something about it: Some of you may have
noticed that at times there has been a plain vehicle parked
by the side of the road: this is for speed enforcement, checking
the speed of vehicles and photographing offending ones. Please
remember: you do not like people speeding through your village,
so do not speed through other people's. It is a fact that if
you hit a child in your car at 20 mph there is a 1 in 20 chance
of killing them; at 30 mph it is 50/50 that the child will be
killed; and at 40 mph, forget it - their chances of survival
are virtually nil. Please SLOW DOWN. Have a great summer. |
