Who are we?
We are a group of enthusiastic amateurs interested in
celebrating and recording the heritage and local history of
Lubenham. When the Village Appraisal was undertaken in the
year 2000, it was highlighted that a number of people were
interested in the history of the village and wanted to produce
publications on the heritage of the parish. This is how we
came about!
What are our aims?
Our aims and objectives are:
- To
promote an appreciation of the history, architecture, landscape
and wildlife of Lubenham village and parish.
- To
encourage interest in the heritage of the community, through
a regular programme of meetings and informal workshops organised
by the group.
- To
encourage a sense of community in the village by undertaking
special projects.
- To
interact with other organisations in the county and elsewhere
with similar interests and aims.
- To
act as a social focus for those interested in the heritage
of the community providing opportunities for everyone.
What
are we trying to achieve?
We are hoping that over time we can record and if necessary,
protect the built, natural, cultural, archaeological, historical
and industrial heritage of the parish, for future generations
- whilst having fun and socialising with other groups and
people along the way!
Lubenham Heritage Group is a chance to discover more about
the area. We have regular meetings at the Village Hall and
organise informal workshops. As a group we are developing
a number of projects to record aspects of life in our parish
and recording certain points in history and how they have
affected the community of Lubenham.
Lubenham Heritage Group was set up with help from Leicestershire
County Council's Museums Arts, and Record Service's Heritage
Watch project.
To try and ensure everyone gets the chance to go to local
meetings, some sessions are held at weekends and others are
held on varying nights of the week.
David Carter, a founder member of the Heritage Group said:
"We have had a fantastic response from local people. We had
a full group join us for a visit to the Records Office for
Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland in Wigston to find out
about records for the village. We now have committee of people
who have volunteered and are busy planning our activities.
The meetings programme is an important part of our work in
encouraging people to share their research and interests in
the parish. More people are wanted to help us develop the
……. more follows group and we hope our coming programme will
uncover more fascinating facts about Lubenham."
